New School Year - Take Time For You!

With the start of school buzzing in everyone's ears, I know that we're all immensely busy. New classes, new responsibilities, new experiences. The start of school signals something a little different for each of us. What I am encouraging each of you to do this school year is set a new personal goal for yourself. This goal shouldn't involve work or school, but simply something that you would like to accomplish for yourself. Perhaps you've always wanted to learn to cook? Always wanted to rock climb? Maybe it's a goal that you'll be training for, a 10K or a triathalon? Each of us needs to make sure that we're taking time out for ourselves, which is why I'm encouraging you to set a personal goal. We have enough things in our life that we do for others or that we don't get personal enjoyment from. Well, this is it, it's your time. What will you do with it?

My Personal Goal: To run the Chicago Marathon!!! I'll be testing myself October 12, 2008. I'll be sure to let you know how things turn out!

Lead On 2009! Discover. Inspire. Grow. Do you DIG?

I just returned from a planning committee for the 2009 Region III Student Lead On and it's definitely going to be a great one. Our theme? Discover. Inspire. Grow. Do you DIG? We're really excited this year about being able to focus on how we as students become aspiring professionals and how it involves all aspects of DIG.

The University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign has a great new facility for Lead On this year. The committee was actually able to tour the facility before the official opening day in August. I can honestly say that everyone is in for a treat. I'm also excited that they are welcoming us to their facility so soon after the completion of their new building.

For those who are unfamiliar with the Student Lead On Conference, it's a conference planned by students for students. A committee of students from all over the region met in Champaign this past weekend to begin planning for this year's conference. The committee will also return to the U of I in September to tie up any loose ends and assure that this conference is a great one. We have a great student committee, so I know that it will be amazing.

Mark your calendars for January 29-31! More details to come!
